Maui Info Get To Know Paradise

Maui has just about everything you’ll need and there are many activities, shops, bars and restaurants very close to our condos. After you go through Lahaina you’ll come to the Cannery Mall shopping center on the left that has many stores including a Longs Drugs and a Safeway Grocery store. This is the busiest Safeway in the world! There is another shopping plaza just north in Honokawai’i and a third located in Napili.

One of our favorite things to do is to whale watch during the winter months. Bring some binoculars for close-up’s. Some of the best viewing can be done right from our lanai! There is so much to do in Maui…but the best things always include the water! A great thing to do one morning is to take a catamaran snorkel cruise to Lanai or Molokini crater. I like the smaller boats which are faster and much less crowded. The best company is TRILOGY and they have 3 catamarans and have the exclusive privilege to swim & BBQ on the beach on Lanai! You won’t believe how dark blue the water is when you get out on a boat. And the view of west Maui from offshore is beautiful! They cater to everyone and you may get to snorkel with the sea turtles and dolphins!

There are many, many lovely beaches to visit. There are excellent swimming beaches located in Kaanapali, Kahana, Napili, and Kapalua Bay with great beginner snorkeling in Kapalua. Kaanapali beach is where all the huge hotels are so sometimes that can get very crowded. We enjoy uncrowded Kahana beach or gorgeous Kapalua bay, so we usually just go there. Maui Dive and Snorkel shop is located across the street in the Kahana Gateway shopping center and there is also a Snorkel Bob’s in Napili Plaza.

The drive to Hana is beautiful but will take the entire day if you decide to do it. Pack food and lots of water if you go. The best way to see Hana and Haleakala Crater is to take a helicopter tour. They fly you (with choreographed music) to waterfalls and even right up through the mouth of the crater! It is breathtaking and an experience you will NEVER forget! It is expensive but well worth it and when you are done you still have the rest of the day to enjoy your vacation! There are many other tourist attractions which you will find brochures for in the shopping centers and hotel lobbies.

If you like golf…you’ll love Maui! Both Kapalua courses are excellent but my favorite is the Plantation where the PGA Mercedes Championships are held every January. This is one wild course! Kaanapali has 2 great courses. There are many many more throughout Maui and they are all wonderful.

If you’re looking for a great meal, the best thing to dine on in Hawaii is the fresh fish. It won’t ever get any better! Our recommendations include; Sansei (probably one of the best sushi bars in the U.S.-but also has excellent hot foods), Roy’s Bar & Grill, and Pacific-O restaurant at the south end of Lahaina-all are gourmet and excellent.

There are many great restaurants west Maui and also in Kaanapali beach. You’ll find brochures listing them throughout Maui. Located at the Kahana Gateway is Black Angus Steakhouse and the Maui Brewing Company. About halfway between Kapalua and Kahana is Napili which features The Sea House and lots of expensive restaurants just north in Kapalua and at the Ritz-Carlton.

Other favorite food recommendations include: The Kapalua Plantation Golf Course Clubhouse restaurant. This place has the most incredible views. Go there and have lunch one day…you’ll love it. There is a Mexican restaurant in Napili Plaza called Maui Tacos. Fast Mexican food and there is also one in Lahaina. One night you must go to Front street in downtown Lahaina and just walk around or shop. The people watching there is excellent. Friday night is ART NIGHT in Lahaina so it is a great time to go and walk around and visit all the wonderful art galleries. Eat at either Longi’s or at an even more upscale gourmet place called David Paul’s. For Italian food try Penne which is located 2 blocks off of Front street in Lahaina. It’s a very small place, but the food is excellent. If you want to grill something up yourself, don’t forget we have gas Bar-B-Q’s by the pool.

Picnics, exploring, hiking, surfing, wind sailing, snorkeling, canoeing, wine tasting, horseback riding, painting, diving, sailing, parasailing, fishing, golf, tennis, swimming, shopping, dining, and just plain lounging around…Maui has it all just waiting for you! By the end of your vacation, you’ll be telling all your friends……..

MAUI… NO KA OI! (Maui is the best!)
